S:t Johannes kyrkogård is situated at the highest point of Brunkebergsåsen in central Stockholm. Historically, the site was considered barren and was associated with ghost stories. However, it has transformed over the years, with the planting of trees beginning in 1817, contributing to its current status as a vibrant resting place for the deceased. The cemetery features a variety of interesting graves and memorials, reflecting the history of the area.

In addition to its primary function as a cemetery, S:t Johannes kyrkogård serves as a park and schoolyard for the nearby International School and French School. The site includes a bell tower and a memorial grove, providing a unique blend of historical significance and greenery. The cemetery also hosts events and activities related to local history, engaging the community and enhancing its role in the cultural landscape of Stockholm. Notably, it is recognized as Norrmalm's oldest wooden building, which has been recently renovated, further adding to its historical importance.
