How do you remove your phone number from MrKoll and Hitta?
How removal works on each site and what IMY can and cannot do.
Short answer
You can remove your listing on Hitta with its Ta bort function, but MrKoll says it usually does not delete published information. IMY says you can ask companies with a utgivningsbevis to erase your data, but the right is not absolute and IMY cannot erase it for you.
Why
- Hitta's support page says you search for your details and click Ta bort, and that removal via Mobile BankID is offered; without it you send a copy of a valid ID by post or email to customer service.
- MrKoll says it usually does not delete published information, except for reasons assessed by its customer service, and points you to customer service in the menu.
- IMY says you have the right to turn to a company with a utgivningsbevis, but the right to erasure does not mean you can have your data removed in every situation.
Details
Hitta also advises you to make your phone number secret with your phone operator, otherwise your details may be republished on Hitta and similar services. A utgivningsbevis is a certificate from Mediemyndigheten that gives a website or database constitutional protection, and IMY says search services often have one. For operators and providers, see the directory of telecom and internet providers in Stockholm, and for another privacy question about phones read whether you may record a phone call in Sweden.
Tip
Start with the removal function on Hitta and ask your operator for a secret number, then write to MrKoll customer service and explain your reason, since the site says customer service assesses the reasons for removal.
What may differ
Whether a site must erase your data depends partly on whether it holds a utgivningsbevis. On 9 July 2026 IMY published news about an EU Court judgment on the relationship between the GDPR and the Swedish system of voluntary utgivningsbevis, and said it will analyse what the ruling means for its ongoing supervision.
Common misconception
IMY can delete your details from MrKoll and Hitta for you.
What actually happens
IMY says it cannot erase your personal data for you, so you must contact the company that processes it. You can file a complaint with IMY, but IMY says it is currently not investigating individual complaints on these issues.
