Short answer

Stockholm summers are warm rather than hot, with a July mean of about 19 °C in SMHI's 1991–2020 normals, though more than 34 °C has been recorded. The normal is 15.7 °C in June, 18.6 °C in July and 17.7 °C in August. SMHI counted 17 days of at least 25 °C in July 2025.

Why

  1. According to SMHI, the 1991–2020 normal in Stockholm is 15.7 °C in June, 18.6 °C in July and 17.7 °C in August.
  2. SMHI's records since 1901 list highest temperatures of 32.2 °C in June (1968), 34.8 °C in July (2022) and 35.4 °C in August (1975).
  3. SMHI's highest July mean in Stockholm since 1901 is 22.5 °C (2018), and its tables show 9 days of at least 25 °C in July 2026 and 17 in July 2025.

Details

The record highs are exceptional values, not typical weather: the July normal mean is 18.6 °C, and the lowest July night temperature since 1901 is 6.0 °C (1977), so evenings can be cool. The June 2026 table shows 10 days of at least 25 °C, and August 2026 shows 7.

Tip

Pack light clothes and sun protection for hot spells, and a sweater for cooler evenings.

What may differ

Summers are similar in Gothenburg and Malmö (July about 18 °C) and much cooler in Kiruna (13.2 °C), according to SMHI normals.
