When does baggage drop-off open at Arlanda?
Where to find the bag drop time for your flight and how the self-service bag drop works.
Short answer
Bag drop at Arlanda has no single opening time, because each airline sets its own, and Swedavia shows the check-in time for most flights under Departures on its website. Swedavia says that if you check in baggage, you should be at the counter when check-in opens. Special baggage such as skis, golf clubs and strollers cannot use self-service bag drop.
Why
- Swedavia says passengers are always responsible for checking with their airline what applies to their flight.
- Swedavia says its website under Departures shows the check-in time for most flights.
- Swedavia says special baggage such as golf clubs, skis and strollers cannot use bag drop and must go to the airline's regular check-in desk for a tag and instructions.
Details
At self-service bag drop you place one bag at a time on the belt, scan the bag tag and wait until the bag leaves; a confirmation then appears on the screen and you can go to security. Arlanda Express also runs a bag drop in Stockholm city, see Arlanda and its alternatives. For ID and passport rules, see whether you need a passport to travel from Sweden to Germany.
Tip
Check the airline's own bag drop deadline too: SAS, for example, closes check-in and bag drop 45 minutes before departure on flights within Scandinavia and Europe.
What may differ
The opening time depends on the airline and the flight, and charter flights may follow different rules, according to SAS. Some airlines offer check-in in the Arlanda Express waiting hall at Stockholm Central station.
Common misconception
Every airline opens its bag drop at the same time at Arlanda.
What actually happens
Swedavia says your airline determines what applies to your flight and points you to the Departures page for the check-in time of most flights.
