Is there a train from Sweden to London?
A rail route via Germany and Belgium, leg by leg.
Short answer
There is no direct train from Sweden to London, but you can go by rail via Berlin and Brussels, with Eurostar on the last leg into London. Snälltåget runs night trains from Stockholm to Berlin, and European Sleeper sells selected connecting journeys from Berlin to London via Brussels. Eurostar's list of direct destinations from London does not include Sweden.
Why
- Eurostar says that from London St Pancras it connects directly to Paris, Lille, Brussels, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
- European Sleeper says you can travel from Prague, Berlin or Milan with its night train to Brussels and transfer to Eurostar for London, booking both tickets in its booking engine.
- Snälltåget says its night train runs Stockholm-Malmö-Copenhagen-Hamburg-Berlin.
Details
European Sleeper says an additional cost applies to connecting Eurostar journeys, and if you miss the European Sleeper train you must buy new tickets for another departure day. Visit Sweden says night trains from Hamburg and Berlin to Stockholm take about 18 hours, which gives an idea of the first leg. Tip
Plan the dates of both night trains together, because they do not run every day, and check the connection time in Berlin. More on Scandinavian rail trips is in international buses and trains.
What may differ
Connecting journeys have limits: European Sleeper says Interrail passes can't be combined with a connecting train, and dogs and cats aren't allowed on connecting journeys.
Common misconception
There is no way to get from Sweden to the UK by train, so you have to fly.
What actually happens
Snälltåget reaches Berlin, and European Sleeper lists Berlin among the cities with night train connections to Brussels and Eurostar to London on selected journeys.
