Can you buy a ticket on board a Norrtåg train?
When on-board sales ended and where to buy your Norrtåg ticket instead.
Short answer
No, you can no longer buy a ticket on board Norrtåg trains, because on-board sales ended on 14 December, so buy your ticket before you board. Norrtåg recommends its own website, its customer service or one of its resellers.
Why
- According to Norrtåg, it is no longer possible to buy a ticket on board its trains, and tickets should be bought in advance.
- Norrtåg's announcement from December 2025 says that from 14 December on-board ticket sales end, and tickets are easiest to buy through its website, customer service or resellers.
- According to Norrtåg, customer service can call you and send the ticket by email or post, which can take up to 10 working days, and single tickets bought on its website are refundable until departure.
Details
Because postal delivery can take up to 10 working days, buy early if you need a paper ticket. Single tickets bought on Norrtåg's website can be cancelled before departure if your plans change. For other trains, see trains with SJ and night trains, and for what a trip costs, see how much a trip to Sweden costs.
Tip
Buy the ticket on Norrtåg's website before you travel, and keep it on your phone, because there is no way to pay the conductor on board.
What may differ
Other operators set their own rules: Öresundståg, for example, also does not sell tickets on board, while Västtrafik's Västtågen sell them by card from the train host.
Common misconception
You can still buy a ticket from the conductor on Norrtåg.
What actually happens
Norrtåg answers "Nej, det går inte längre" to this question: on-board ticket sales ended on 14 December.
