Short answer

Yes, children under 7 travel free on SL with a person who has a valid ticket. An adult over 18 with an SL ticket can also take up to six children aged 7 to 11 free of charge, every day of the week, and young people under 20 pay the reduced price.

Why

  1. Children under 7 can travel free when they travel with another person who has a valid ticket, according to SL.
  2. A person over 18 with an SL ticket can bring up to six children who have turned 7 but not 12 free of charge, according to SL.
  3. Young people who have not turned 20 can travel at the reduced price, which is SEK 26 for a 75-minute single ticket, according to SL.

Details

SL's 2025 price announcement says the rule for up to six children aged 7 to 11 applies every day of the week. Some tickets, such as UL/SL tickets, exist only at full price. For family-friendly stays see where to stay in Stockholm with kids, and for payment see how to pay for SL in Stockholm.

Tip

Make sure the adult's own ticket is valid for the whole trip, because the free travel for children depends on the adult having a valid SL ticket.

What may differ

The age decides the rule: under 7 free with a person who has a valid ticket, 7 to 11 free with an adult over 18 who has an SL ticket (up to six children), and from 12 up to 19 the reduced price applies.

Common misconception

All children travel free on SL until they turn 12.

What actually happens

Only children under 7 travel free with a person who has a valid ticket, and children aged 7 to 11 travel free only with an adult over 18 who has an SL ticket, up to six children per adult, according to SL.
