Åre, Sälen, Vemdalen or Idre Fjäll?

How do the four resorts differ and which should you choose?

Consider Åre for varied mountain terrain and a station in the village. Sälen lets you choose a family base, but the region extends beyond SkiStar's four areas. In Vemdalen, first choose Vemdalsskalet, Björnrike or Klövsjö/Storhogna, then your accommodation and local travel. Think of Idre Fjäll as one mountain with skiing on different sides. The Idre region is not the same as Idre Fjäll. The regional Idrepasset covers different areas. Check the list of ski areas for the specific product.

When is the 2026/27 season planned?

How do you get there and cover the final leg?

Åre: take a train to Åre or the station suited to your chosen base. Do not assume that every property in Björnen or Duved is within walking distance of Åre station with luggage.

Sälen: travel via Mora, then take a transfer. With Snälltåget, specify the final stop. A ticket to a station does not automatically include travel to your accommodation.

Vemdalen: travel via Röjan or, on suitable dates, via Östersund, then transfer to your ski area. The operator has different arrangements for Saturdays and other accommodation changeover days. Source: Snälltåget, 03.11.2026.

Idre Fjäll: travel via Mora with an onward bus, or take a winter bus to the resort. Check your date, stop and return connection with the operator, including Dalatrafik. How much is a ski pass under the same conditions?

Compare for a 30-year-old skiing 21-26 February 2027, starting 21 February, using the 6-8-day product. Select the same details in each official calculation and save the final price with its date and time. Check the discount in that calculation and do not deduct an applied discount again. Rental, lessons, accommodation and a new card are separate costs. Product information checked 3 November 2026. The price is determined when calculated.

The comparison uses the standard system for each named resort. Åre includes Åreskutan, Björnen and Duved/Tegefjäll. Sälen here means Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen and Hundfjället. Vemdalen includes Vemdalsskalet, Björnrike and Klövsjö/Storhogna. Idre Fjäll covers Idre Fjäll only. Local passes cover smaller areas and do not replace the full product in the table. How do you compare the whole trip, rental, lessons and accommodation?

Compare the full P + R in the same currency for the same trip scenario. A cheaper pass does not automatically mean a cheaper trip. Add the other costs first.

Compare equipment of the same class for the same days: skis, boots, poles and helmet. As an example of one cost component, Idre Fjäll's 2026/27 online price list gives 1 290 SEK for the adult Slalompaket Medel for 6-8 days, with a helmet costing a separate 205 SEK. Budget for lessons separately: group or private, duration, language and meeting point. Compare accommodation for seven nights and the same number of guests, adding mandatory cleaning and bed linen if excluded. Keep a refundable deposit separate from expenses, but allow for the available balance required on your card. When driving, divide shared costs among the actual passengers.
