How much liquid can you take in hand luggage at Arlanda?
The 100 ml limit, the one-litre bag and the Terminal 5 exception.
Short answer
At Arlanda each liquid container in hand luggage may hold at most 100 ml, according to Swedavia and the Swedish Transport Agency. At Terminal 5 you can carry any number of 100 ml containers without a one-litre bag, while the other Arlanda checkpoints still require a transparent resealable bag of at most one litre.
Why
- Swedavia states that the maximum size for containers of liquid is 100 ml at all security controls at Arlanda.
- According to Swedavia, since 1 September 2024 the Terminal 5 checkpoint allows an unlimited number of 100 ml containers that do not need to be placed in a one-litre bag.
- The Swedish Transport Agency states that elsewhere the containers must go in a transparent resealable plastic bag of at most one litre, one bag per passenger, and that empty containers of any size are allowed.
Details
Liquid medicines, baby food and diet food needed for the journey are allowed and are presented separately at security. Goods bought after the security checkpoint can be taken on board, but the rules may differ at the airport you fly back from. Checked luggage is not affected by the limit. Tip
Pack liquids in 100 ml containers and keep them in a transparent bag at the top of your hand luggage, because at most checkpoints they must come out and be shown separately.
What may differ
The rule depends on the terminal: Terminal 5 has no bag requirement, while Terminal 2 and the other Swedavia airports require the one-litre bag. Rules outside the EU and at the airport you fly back from may differ.
Common misconception
The 100 ml liquid limit has been scrapped at Arlanda.
What actually happens
Swedavia states that the 100 ml limit applies at all security controls at Arlanda; only the one-litre bag requirement has been dropped at Terminal 5.
