How do you book a car inspection (besiktning) in Sweden?
Booking steps, what to bring and what happens if you do not book.
Short answer
Book online at an inspection company by entering the registration number and choosing station, date and time. Bilprovningen needs no documents for a normal inspection and allows free cancellation until 12:00 the day before. Drop-in without a booking costs a SEK 100 service fee at Bilprovningen.
Why
- Besikta says to enter your registration number and click Sök lediga tider, and that you can book, change or cancel from there.
- Opus says to enter your registration number and pick the service type, choose a station, date and time that suit you, and then check out and pay.
- Bilprovningen says you can book at bilprovningen.se/boka or by phone on 0771-600 600, that you do not need to bring any documents, and that you can cancel for free until 12:00 the day before.
Details
Transportstyrelsen says you are responsible for having the vehicle inspected in time even if you get no offer from an inspection company, and that it sends no notice when an inspection is due. You can check the due date by sending bes. and the registration number to 71640. For follow-up inspections Bilprovningen suggests bringing the earlier protocol. See auto repair and maintenance in Stockholm and driving and traffic rules in Sweden.
Tip
Book before the deadline month starts if you can, since Transportstyrelsen sends no notice and a missed deadline means a driving ban.
What may differ
Fees and payment differ by company: Besikta lists online payment with Klarna or card and payment at the station with Swish, Klarna or card, and all its stations are cash-free.
