Nya Hyresgästföreningen i Hamberg is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing the interests of tenants in the Hamberg area. The organization manages approximately 750 student apartments and is governed by a board of up to seven members who are elected by the tenants. To facilitate communication and engagement, the organization holds annual meetings in the fall and tenant meetings in the spring, providing a platform for tenants to discuss issues and concerns.
In addition to advocacy, Nya Hyresgästföreningen offers a local rental service for events at Flogstavägen 45a and assists tenants with rent negotiations through Uppsala Studentbostäder. The organization promotes community engagement and collaboration with landlords, aiming to foster a supportive housing environment. Funding for its activities comes from small annual fees paid by tenants, which are used to support tenant influence and recreational activities. Information about meetings and events is communicated through postings in stairwells, ensuring that tenants are kept informed about important developments within the housing community.
