Which terminal is international at Arlanda?
Which terminals handle international flights and how transfers work.
Short answer
International flights leave from both Terminal 5 and Terminal 2 at Arlanda, and Terminal 5 also has domestic traffic since the old Terminal 4 joined it. Terminal 5 opened in 1976 as the international terminal. Swedavia lists separate transfer buses for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers between the two terminals. Checked on 28 October 2026.
Why
- Swedavia says Terminal 4 is now part of Terminal 5 and has both domestic and international traffic.
- According to Swedavia, a non-Schengen transfer bus runs between Gate F1 in Terminal 5 and Gate 70 in Terminal 2.
- Swedavia lists the original international terminal as Terminal 5, Arlanda International, opened in 1976.
Details
Swedavia runs separate transfer routes for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers. Passport and ID rules for leaving Sweden are described in whether Sweden is in the Schengen area. Customs rules on arrival are in what to declare to customs at Arlanda.
Tip
Use the terminal on your ticket, not the flight type, since both Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 take international flights. Duty free rules are in how duty free works when flying out of Sweden.
What may differ
Transfer routes differ for non-Schengen flights: they run between Gate F1 and Gate D24 inside Terminal 5, and between Gate F1 and Gate 70 to Terminal 2.
Common misconception
Terminal 5 is the international terminal and handles only international flights.
What actually happens
Swedavia says the old domestic Terminal 4 is now part of Terminal 5, which has both domestic and international traffic, and its transfer page links non-Schengen flights in Terminal 2 as well, with a stop at Gate 70.
