Short answer

Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Sweden, and it must not be older than 10 years. The Swedish Police state this rule for third country nationals. EU and EEA citizens need a valid passport or a national ID card.

Why

  1. The passport cannot be older than 10 years and should be valid at least 3 months after the planned departure date, according to the Swedish Police.
  2. Your Europe says a non-EU passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU.
  3. Your Europe also says the passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.

Details

Both conditions must be met. A passport issued more than 10 years ago does not meet the rule even if it has validity left. If you plan to leave on 1 June, for example, the passport should be valid until at least 1 September.

Tip

Check both the expiry date and the issue date of your passport before you book your trip, and renew it first if either one is too close.
