Hostels in Gothenburg: 8 hostels from Slottsskogen to Hisingen and Kviberg

This page covers hostels in Gothenburg in five parts of the city: by Slottsskogen park, on Långgatorna and Stigberget west of the centre, near Liseberg, on Hisingen and in Kviberg. It shows what sets them apart, from a bed in a dorm to a private room or a cabin: every hostel has an address and a short description, and the phone number and website are on the card.

Which group suits you

The page is useful if you want to stay next to the city's largest park, if you arrive by car and need somewhere to leave it, or if there are several of you and you want one private room with space for everyone.

Choosing a location: Slottsskogen, Liseberg or the tram north

  • By Slottsskogen there are three hostels within half a kilometre of each other, on Vegagatan and at Linnéplatsen.
  • West of the centre you stay on Tredje Långgatan or on Stigbergsliden, about 200 metres from the Stigbergstorget tram stop.
  • Near Liseberg and Korsvägen there is one hostel, on Mölndalsvägen.
  • The tram to Hisingen and Kviberg takes five to ten minutes from the Central Station, according to the hostels themselves.

Three of the hostels are in the Linné district, within half a kilometre of each other as measured on the map: two on Vegagatan and one at Linnéplatsen. One of them has Slottsskogen, the city's largest park, as its nearest neighbour and gives Olivedalsgatan as its tram stop. At Linnéplatsen the tram stops outside the door, and the hostel there counts the park, the Botanical Garden, Haga and the restaurants of Linné among its neighbours.

West of the centre there are two hostels of different kinds. One is on Tredje Långgatan, in the middle of the Långgatorna streets, and has private rooms only. The other is on Stigbergsliden, in a house that from 1854 was Gothenburg's seamen's house: the hostel says the easiest way there is tram 3, 9 or 11 to Stigbergstorget, about 200 metres away. On the other side of the inner city, on Mölndalsvägen, you stay near Liseberg and the Korsvägen transport hub.

On Hisingen and in Kviberg you stay further from the inner city but close to the tram. The hostel on Hisingen states about five minutes on line 6 from the Central Station and about 400 metres on foot from the Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen stop. In Kviberg the stop is 150 metres from the reception, and the hostel puts the ride to the Central Station at ten minutes on line 6, 7 or 11.

The page is a selection: more hostels are in the Hostels category of the directory, and facts about the city are on the city page. Pages about hotels and other places to stay are collected under Hotels and accommodation.

Dorm, private room or cabin: what you actually book

  • A bed in a dorm is available at some of the hostels, at one of them with eight beds per dorm.
  • Private rooms: from single rooms to family rooms for up to six guests.
  • Two of the hostels rent out whole rooms only and have no dorms.
  • Shower and toilet: in the room, in the corridor, or as separate lockable rooms.

The word hostel does not mean the same thing at every address. At some of the hostels you can book a single bed: in dorms with eight beds for women only or men only, where every bed has a curtain, a power socket and a lockable storage box underneath, or in a dorm with bunk beds. Two others state plainly that they have no dorms: there you always book a room of your own (the hostels' websites, October 2026).

The private rooms range from single and double rooms to family rooms for four or six guests, and in Kviberg there are cabins as well. Where the bathroom is varies more than the size of the room. Some rooms have a bathroom of their own, in others the shower and toilet are in the corridor, and at one hostel every shower and every toilet is a separate lockable room. On Stigberget all rooms have a washbasin, while the showers and toilets are close to the rooms.

One of the hostels by Slottsskogen has two room classes: in one the bed is made and a towel and breakfast are included, in the other you make the bed yourself with your own or rented linen and pay extra for breakfast. The largest hostel in the same area takes about 260 guests in three buildings with a shared reception.

Before you arrive: key, bed linen, breakfast and payment

  • Check-in: from 2 pm or 3 pm and, depending on the hostel, until 4 pm, 8 pm or 9 pm.
  • Bed linen and towel: included, rented for a fee or brought from home.
  • Breakfast: a buffet that is included or bought as an extra, or not served at all.
  • Payment: two of the hostels do not take cash.

At the hostels that state the times on their websites, check-in starts at 2 pm or 3 pm (October 2026). The difference is when the reception closes. At the hostel on Mölndalsvägen it is open from 8 am to 4 pm every day, and guests who arrive later collect the key from a key box. On Stigberget the reception is open until 8 pm, subject to the season, and in Kviberg you check in until 8 pm, on Sundays until 4 pm. By Slottsskogen one hostel checks guests in until 9 pm, or later by arrangement.

If you arrive after closing, get in touch beforehand: the hostel in Kviberg wants to hear from you by phone or email before the reception closes. Bed linen is the other thing to sort out. At one hostel bed linen and a towel are included in all rooms, at another the linen is included while the towel is rented, and at several you rent both for a fee or bring your own.

Breakfast is served as a buffet at several of the hostels: it is included in some room rates and bought as an extra in others. On Hisingen the hostel offers free coffee and tea and sells a breakfast bag from a vending machine. Most of the hostels have a guest kitchen, so you can cook for yourself.

Two of the hostels say they are cash-free, and one of them takes payment before check-in, by card, Swish or bank giro. The cancellation rules differ: in Kviberg you can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before check-in, while a hostel on Vegagatan, according to the booking terms on its website, charges the full amount if you cancel, change the booking or do not turn up. Read the terms of your own booking before you pay.

Questions and answers

Can you book a private room at a hostel in Gothenburg?

Yes, all the hostels on this page have private rooms, and two of them rent out whole rooms only. A bed in a dorm is available at some of the others.

Are bed linen and a towel included?

It depends on the hostel. At one both are included in all rooms, at another the linen is included but not the towel, and at several you rent them for a fee or bring your own.

Is there a hostel near Liseberg?

Yes, the hostel on Mölndalsvägen in the second group describes its own location as near Liseberg and Korsvägen.

Which hostels have parking?

In Kviberg there are plenty of spaces, but they cannot be booked, on Hisingen there is indoor parking, and on Mölndalsvägen a garage space is booked in advance for a fee. The hostel on Stigberget has no parking of its own and refers guests to public car parks.

What do I do if I arrive after the reception has closed?

Contact the hostel beforehand. One of them leaves the key in a key box after 4 pm, another checks guests in later than 9 pm by arrangement, and in Kviberg you should call or email before the reception closes.

Can I bring a dog?

Not without asking first. Two of the hostels do not accept pets at all, and on Stigberget it can only be arranged by contacting the hostel directly, not in the online booking.
