Indian restaurants in Stockholm spread over three areas: Norrmalm with Vasastan, Kungsholmen and Södermalm. Use the page to find a weekday lunch, a kitchen with a tandoor oven or South Indian dishes near you: the cards give the address and a short description, and the phone number and website are inside the card.

Three areas and what the kitchens cook

  • Norrmalm and Vasastan: Indian food with modern touches by Birger Jarlsgatan and classic kitchens along Upplandsgatan.
  • Kungsholmen: one kitchen from Kerala and two restaurants with a broad Indian menu.
  • Södermalm: a tandoor oven on Åsögatan, a spacious restaurant on Hornsgatan and late closing by Hornstull.
  • The selection is small: the catalogue has around sixty cards with Indian food.

In Norrmalm and Vasastan there are four restaurants, from Birger Jarlsgatan near Stureplan to Ynglingagatan by Norrtull. The kitchen by Birger Jarlsgatan combines traditional Indian cooking with modern touches and has a tandoor oven. Two restaurants are on Upplandsgatan, one near Norra Bantorget and the other just over half a kilometre further north: the first calls its food Indian fine dining, the second has North Indian dishes such as tandoori, biryani and thali (the restaurants' websites, read on 7 October 2026).

On Kungsholmen the restaurants are on Fleminggatan and Hantverkargatan. One of those on Hantverkargatan cooks food from Kerala and the rest of South India, with dishes such as appam and idli. The other two have the broad Indian menu: the one on Fleminggatan has been there since 1996, and the one further west on Hantverkargatan has separate sections for balti, korma and biryani.

On Södermalm there is one restaurant on Åsögatan, one on Hornsgatan and one on Verkstadsgatan by Hornstull. The first has been family-run for more than 25 years and bakes naan bread in a tandoor oven. The one on Hornsgatan describes itself as a very spacious restaurant, and the one by Hornstull is open until 11 pm every day of the week.

The catalogue has far more Indian kitchens than those shown here: most of them are in the category Asian restaurants and sushi bars, where you can search for the word indisk. The city's own page is Stockholm, and under Restaurants and cafés there are more food guides.

Lunch from 11 am and open almost every day

  • Weekdays: nine restaurants open at 11 am, the tenth at 11.30 am.
  • Lunch ends between 2 pm and 3 pm where an end time is given.
  • Closed days: nine of the ten are open all week.
  • Weekend: the kitchens open later, most often at 1 pm.

Indian food can be eaten in the middle of the day in all three areas. Nine of the ten restaurants open at 11 am Monday to Friday, and the tenth, by Birger Jarlsgatan, serves lunch from 11.30 am to 2 pm and opens again at 5 pm (information from the websites on 7 October 2026). Six of the restaurants state when lunch ends: 2 pm at one, 2.30 pm at three and 3 pm at two. One restaurant in Vasastan serves lunch until 3 pm and à la carte for the rest of the day.

Nine of the restaurants are open every day of the week, so a Monday or a Sunday works just as well as a Friday. The tenth lists lunch Monday to Friday and dinner Monday to Saturday. The weekend starts later than the weekday: two restaurants on Kungsholmen open at noon on Saturdays and Sundays, six open at 1 pm on Saturdays, and two in Norrmalm do not open until 4 pm or 5 pm. Furthest north in Vasastan, Sunday starts at 3 pm.

The evening usually ends at 10 pm. The restaurant furthest north in Vasastan closes earliest, at 9 pm every day, and the one by Hornstull latest, at 11 pm every day. On Södermalm one restaurant writes that the kitchen closes half an hour before closing time, so do not arrive at the last minute.

Tables, groups and food to pick up

  • Booking: all ten have online booking.
  • Small parties: up to four people normally do not need to book at one restaurant on Södermalm.
  • More than ten: a group menu is required at one place in Norrmalm.
  • Take away: seven restaurants, four with online ordering.
  • Children: a children's menu up to the age of 12 at one restaurant in Vasastan.

All ten restaurants take table bookings online, through a booking system or a form, and most of them by phone as well (read on 7 October 2026). On Åsögatan the restaurant writes that parties of up to four people normally do not need to book, and that same-day bookings are made by phone. Furthest north in Vasastan, a booking sent through the form is valid only once the restaurant has confirmed it.

If you are more than ten, one restaurant in Norrmalm requires you to choose the group menu, and the enquiry is sent by email. In Vasastan there are combination menus for two people or more, and the same restaurant has a children's menu for children up to the age of 12. By Hornstull the restaurant also does catering.

Food to pick up is available at seven of the ten. Four of them have online ordering for collection, one takes the order by phone, and three also link to delivery services that bring the food to your door.

Where can I find South Indian food?

On Kungsholmen, where a restaurant on Hantverkargatan cooks food from Kerala and the rest of South India. The menu has dishes such as appam and idli.

Do Indian restaurants have vegetarian and vegan dishes?

Yes, and in a couple of places it shows directly in the menu. In Vasastan one restaurant marks vegetarian and vegan dishes and lets you choose paneer or tofu, and on Kungsholmen another has a separate section with vegetarian balti.

It varies from dish to dish. One of the restaurants in Vasastan shows the heat with chilli symbols in the menu. Ask for a milder version when you order if you are unsure.

Often not for a small party: on Södermalm one of the kitchens writes that up to four people normally get a table without booking. If you are more, or it is a Friday or Saturday evening, all of them have online booking.

Can I order Indian food for collection?

Yes, at seven of the restaurants. Four have online ordering, and three work with delivery services if you want the food brought home.
