Restaurants in Varberg lie in three directions: around the square and the park Brunnsparken, along Västra Vallgatan, and out by the sea, in the harbour and in the bay of Apelviken. This page shows where lunch is served, which kitchens open only in the evening and which stay open after the bathing season has ended: the address and a description are in each card, and the map below the cards shows the distances.

Three locations: the square, Västra Vallgatan and the sea
- The square and Brunnsparken: four kitchens within about 300 metres, on Kungsgatan, Kyrkogatan, Norrgatan and Borgmästaregatan.
- Västra Vallgatan: a trattoria at number 41 and a sushi bar at number 45, some fifty metres apart.
- The harbour: Otto Torells gata and Skeppsgatan, about 400 metres from Kungsgatan as the crow flies.
- Apelviken: Tångkörarvägen, just over two kilometres south of the centre.
From the town hotel on Kungsgatan it is at most about 300 metres as the crow flies to the other kitchens around the square and Brunnsparken, measured on the cards' map points, and around 400 metres to the two restaurants in the harbour. Västra Vallgatan runs just west of Kungsgatan: an Italian trattoria and a sushi bar stand there two house numbers apart.
Apelviken is an outing of its own. The bay lies just over two kilometres south of the centre, as the crow flies, and the two restaurants there both have their address on Tångkörarvägen but stand about half a kilometre apart. One of them, by its own description, is the closest to the beach, with a view of the Kattegat, and began as a beach café for bathers in the 1930s.
The town is a seaside resort, and that shows in October. One of the large entertainment houses on Strandgatan writes on its website that its summer bistro has closed for the season. Every place in the cards, on the other hand, has hours or a programme for the autumn on its own website (read on 7 October 2026).
More places, including those outside the centre, are in the catalogue sections Restaurants and Pizzerias. The page about Varberg gathers facts about the town, and food guides for other towns are under Restaurants and cafés.
Hours in October: lunch, evening and closed days
- Lunch Monday to Friday: from 11 am at the pizzeria on Borgmästaregatan and in the harbour, from 11.30 am at the town hotel, by Brunnsparken and south of the square.
- Evening only: the trattoria on Västra Vallgatan from 4.30 pm, the evening restaurant in Apelviken from 6 pm.
- Sunday: five kitchens give Sunday hours, four of them around the square and Brunnsparken.
Weekday lunch is served at five places (the restaurants' own websites, 7 October 2026). The town hotel on Kungsgatan has a lunch of the day from 11.30 am to 2 pm Monday to Friday. The dining rooms by Brunnsparken lay out a lunch buffet from 11.30 am, the pizzeria on Borgmästaregatan has a lunch of the day from 11 am to 2 pm, and the restaurant south of the square serves lunch from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm. In the harbour, the kitchen on Otto Torells gata gives lunch from 11 am to 3 pm for week 41.
At the weekend the town hotel serves a special Saturday lunch from noon to 2.30 pm and brunch at the same hours on Sundays, from September to May. By Brunnsparken pizza is baked on a sourdough base on Sundays, and the restaurant south of the square has its own Saturday lunch.
Three kitchens are open mainly in the evening. The trattoria on Västra Vallgatan opens at 4.30 pm Tuesday to Friday and at noon on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. From 1 September to 31 May the evening restaurant in Apelviken is open Tuesday to Thursday from 6 pm and on Friday and Saturday from 5 pm, then with two sittings. The pizzeria by the harbour is open only on Friday and Saturday, from 5 pm to 9 pm.
At the town hotel and by Brunnsparken the à la carte menu is served from 6 pm every day, and the restaurant south of the square is open in the evening Wednesday to Saturday. The restaurant by the beach in Apelviken is open all year but gives no times on its page. The hours in the catalogue cards may differ, and then the restaurant's own website is the one that counts.
Kitchens and booking: hotel dining rooms, Italian and pizza
- Italian at two addresses: a trattoria on Västra Vallgatan and a restaurant on Norrgatan.
- Pizza: a wood-fired oven in Apelviken, collection and home delivery from Borgmästaregatan, a sourdough base on Sundays by Brunnsparken.
- Booking: a button on the website at several places, a form for up to twelve people in the harbour.
The two hotel restaurants in the centre serve both lunch and dinner every day. The town hotel has a dining room with an à la carte menu inspired by Swedish cooking and a simpler bistro menu in the lobby. The dining rooms by Brunnsparken are in a house with a view of the park and are café, lunch place and dinner restaurant in one.
Italian food is found at two addresses. The trattoria on Västra Vallgatan makes fresh, home-made pasta, fish and meat dishes and Italian desserts. The restaurant on Norrgatan describes itself as a piece of Italy. In the sushi bar two house numbers from the trattoria you eat in or phone in an order and take the food with you.
The pizza differs from one location to the next. The pizzeria on Borgmästaregatan has vegan pizzas, salads and a children's menu and offers collection, home delivery and online ordering. The place on Skeppsgatan calls itself a small maritime restaurant disguised as a pizzeria and serves small dishes alongside the pizzas. In Apelviken the pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven, and the menu also has fish, a vegetarian dish and meat.
Tables are as a rule booked on the restaurant's website: that is how it works at the town hotel, south of the square, on Skeppsgatan and at both restaurants in Apelviken. The kitchen on Otto Torells gata has a form for parties of up to twelve people.
Questions and answers
Around the square and Brunnsparken, south of the square and in the harbour. The town hotel and the dining rooms by Brunnsparken start at 11.30 am, the pizzeria on Borgmästaregatan and the kitchen on Otto Torells gata at 11 am (7 October 2026).

Yes, both restaurants on Tångkörarvägen. The one by the beach is open all year, and the evening restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday from September to May.
It is wise at the weekend and where the kitchen has sittings. The evening restaurant in Apelviken has two sittings on Friday and Saturday, and the pizzeria by the harbour is open for only four hours on two evenings a week.
By Brunnsparken: the dining rooms there are open until 11 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The other kitchens that give an evening closing time close at 10.30 pm at the latest.

The restaurants on this page are chosen by the SverigesForetagsGuide editorial team. Payment affects neither the selection nor the order. The order within the groups is free and says nothing about quality.
