Breakfast in Gothenburg: 7 places inside the moat, in Haga, Majorna and on Eriksberg

Seven places for breakfast in Gothenburg: breakfast buffets and brunch inside the moat, cafés in Haga and in the Långgatorna streets, a café in Majorna and a stone-oven bakery on Eriksberg. For each place we have read on its own website when breakfast is served and what it includes, so that you can choose by the clock: an early weekday morning, a long weekend breakfast or breakfast in the middle of the day.

When breakfast is served: the hours place by place

  • Earliest on weekdays: the patisserie in Östra Larmgatan opens at 6:30 and the café in Tredje Långgatan at 7:00.
  • Breakfast ends at 10:30, 11:00 or 12:00, depending on the place and the day of the week.
  • All day: the brunch restaurant by Kungstorget serves breakfast dishes from 9:00 to 17:00.
  • Weekends only: the breakfast buffet at the café in Östra Larmgatan is laid out on Saturday and Sunday.

Inside the moat there are two places with a breakfast buffet in the same street. The patisserie in Östra Larmgatan opens at 6:30 on weekdays and serves the buffet from 7:00 to 10:30, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 11:30. The café a few doors away has its buffet only at the weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 12:00, and opens at 10:00 on weekdays. By Kungstorget there is a brunch restaurant that serves breakfast and brunch all day, every day from 9:00 to 17:00 (the places' websites, October 2026).

West of the moat, the café in Haga Nygata serves breakfast every day from 8:30, half an hour after it opens. The café in Tredje Långgatan opens at 7:00 Monday to Friday and at 9:00 at the weekend and serves breakfast until 11:00 on weekdays and 12:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Further out, the café in Mariagatan in Majorna opens at 9:00 Monday to Thursday and at 10:00 Friday to Sunday. Breakfast is on the menu, but the website gives no end time for it. The bakery café on Eriksberg, on the Hisingen side of the river, opens at 9:00 on weekdays and at 8:00 at weekends and serves breakfast until 11:00. More cafés are in the catalogue category Cafés & Canteens, bakeries under Bakeries, and more guides about food are under Restaurants and cafés.

Buffet, plate or bread roll: what is included

  • Buffet: two places in Östra Larmgatan, one on weekdays and Saturdays, the other on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Hot breakfast: scrambled eggs with bacon or avocado in Tredje Långgatan and scrambled eggs with bacon in Haga.
  • Simple breakfast: a roll or a sandwich with coffee and juice in Majorna and on Eriksberg.

The weekend buffet at the café in Östra Larmgatan consists, according to the café, of cheeses, fresh fruit and berries, freshly baked sourdough bread and cakes, and juice and a hot drink are included. The patisserie in the same street describes its breakfast buffet without listing the contents. The same patisserie has a soup and dessert buffet from 11:00 on weekdays and from 11:30 at weekends.

In Tredje Långgatan you choose the size. The smallest breakfast is a cheese roll with coffee, the medium sizes are a sandwich of your choice with coffee and juice, with or without yoghurt, granola and berries, and the largest is a hot dish: scrambled eggs with bacon or avocado on levain toast or a tamago sando, a Japanese egg sandwich, with coffee and juice. The café in Haga has five breakfast plates, among them scrambled eggs with bacon, mozzarella with Parma ham and a vegan option with guacamole, and coffee or tea is included.

Breakfast is simplest in Majorna and on Eriksberg. The café in Mariagatan has a breakfast with a bread roll, Greek yoghurt with honey, filter coffee or tea and juice. The bakery café on Eriksberg has two versions: a quick one with coffee or tea, juice and a cheese or ham sandwich, and a large one that adds soured milk with muesli and a scone with raspberry jam, a croissant or a bun. The brunch restaurant by Kungstorget has pancakes, sandwiches, waffles and egg dishes, and it also serves cocktails, beer and wine.

Tables, payment and Sunday mornings

  • No table bookings and no cash at the brunch restaurant by Kungstorget.
  • A table can be booked by e-mail at the café in Haga.
  • Sunday: no breakfast buffet at the patisserie, which opens at 11:00 that day.

The brunch restaurant by Kungstorget writes that it takes neither bookings nor cash, so you go there without a booking and pay by card. The café in Haga takes table bookings by e-mail. The other places mention no booking for breakfast on their websites.

Sundays differ from Saturdays. The patisserie in Östra Larmgatan serves its buffet on weekdays and Saturdays but not on Sundays, when it opens at 11:00. If you want a buffet on a Sunday, the café in the same street is the one, from 9:00 to 12:00. The hours on the cards may differ from the places' own, and in that case the hours on the website apply.
