Restaurants in Umeå: 11 places for lunch, for the evening and by the river
Restaurants in Umeå are arranged here by occasion rather than by street: four kitchens in the centre that serve both lunch and dinner, four evening restaurants and three places with something of their own, a boat on the river, a bistro in the sculpture park at Umedalen and an entirely vegetarian kitchen. Nine of the eleven lie within just over 300 metres of the square Rådhustorget. The address is in each card, and the map below the cards shows where the places are.
Lunch and dinner in the centre: kitchens that open at 11 am
Evening restaurants: a hotel restaurant, menus in several steps, a bistro and tapas
Something of their own: the boat on the river, the sculpture park and the vegetarian kitchen
Restaurants in Umeå on the map: the centre, the quay and Umedalen
The map shows the restaurants in the cards above and no others. Tap a point to open the card with the address and description.

Lunch and dinner: four kitchens that have both
- Monday to Friday: lunch from 11 am at Rådhusesplanaden 2E and at Kungsgatan 75.
- Tuesday to Friday: lunch from 11 am to 2 pm at Vasagatan 10.
- Saturday: lunch from noon on Rådhusesplanaden, brunch from 11.30 am to 3 pm at Kungsgatan 75.
- Monday: two of the four are open.
Four kitchens in the centre receive guests both in the middle of the day and in the evening (the restaurants' own websites, 7 October 2026). The restaurant at Rådhusesplanaden 2E serves lunch from 11 am to 2 pm Monday to Saturday, starting at noon on Saturdays, and dinner every day of the week. At Kungsgatan 75 the dining room is in a hotel, in a setting from 1897: lunch runs from 11 am to 1.30 pm on weekdays, and according to the restaurant the dishes can be ordered as a full or a half portion.
The sushi restaurant at Vasagatan 10 has lunch Tuesday to Friday and opens again at 4 pm; the kitchen describes the food as Asian dishes with Latin influences, cooked with Nordic produce. The restaurant at Östra Rådhusgatan 2B opens at 11 am Tuesday to Saturday and stays open until late, with Swedish produce in season and the French bistro as its model.
Monday is the day to watch. Of the four, only the restaurant on Rådhusesplanaden and the hotel dining room at Kungsgatan 75 are open then; the other two start their week on Tuesday.
More lunch places and restaurants, including those in the districts outside the centre, are in the catalogue sections Restaurants and Asian restaurants and sushi bars. The page about Umeå describes the town, and if you are travelling on you will find other towns in the section Restaurants and cafés.
The evening: three rooms in one hotel, menus in several steps and small dishes
- Storgatan 46: three parts in the same restaurant, an open square, a dining room and a bar.
- Vasagatan 1: a menu of three, five or seven courses.
- Storgatan 44: small dishes since 2005, Monday to Saturday from 5 pm.
- Storgatan 62A: a neighbourhood bistro, Tuesday to Saturday from 5 pm.
The hotel restaurant at Storgatan 46 is in a hotel from 1895 and consists of three parts: an open restaurant square for spontaneous visits, a dining room for special occasions and a bar. It is open from 5 pm to 11 pm Monday to Thursday, from 3 pm on Friday and Saturday and from 4 pm to 10 pm on Sundays. The kitchen calls its dishes classics with a twist.
At Vasagatan 1 the guest decides how long the evening will be: the menu comes in three, five or seven courses, and all three can be had vegetarian, vegan or adapted to allergies if you say so when booking. The kitchen is open from 5 pm Tuesday to Saturday and has a separate room for parties.
The tapas restaurant at Storgatan 44 has been there since 2005 and serves small dishes that are eaten one by one or put together into a whole meal, at small tables or large ones. The neighbourhood bistro at Storgatan 62A is just under 700 metres east of Rådhustorget, cooks a seasonal menu with produce from small local producers and has six seats at the bar counter.
The river, Umedalen and the kitchen without meat
- The boat by the quay: open every day, lunch until 3 pm and an evening menu from 4 pm.
- Umedalen: about five kilometres west of Rådhustorget, as the crow flies.
- Skolgatan 49: lacto-vegetarian and vegan food only.
- Cash-free: on the boat, at Storgatan 44 and at Storgatan 46.
The restaurant on the river lies by the quay, just under 300 metres from Rådhustorget. Guests sit inside the boat or in a glazed part on the jetty, and according to the restaurant every seat that can be booked is fitted for winter. Lunch is served from 11 am to 3 pm on weekdays and from noon to 3 pm at the weekend, wood-fired pizza from 3 pm and the evening menu from 4 pm. The kitchen closes at 9 pm Sunday to Thursday and at 9.30 pm on Friday and Saturday, and dogs are welcome at certain tables.
The bistro at Umedalen is an outing of its own: about five kilometres west of the centre, as the crow flies between the cards' map points. In summer it has outdoor seating in the middle of the sculpture park, and the kitchen cooks rustic dishes by season. It is open in the evening Wednesday to Sunday, for lunch from 11 am to 2 pm Wednesday to Friday according to the weekly schedule, and a table is booked by phone or e-mail.
The kitchen at Skolgatan 49 has removed all meat and serves only lacto-vegetarian and vegan food, with the lunch of the day as its fixed point. It is a daytime place: on 7 October 2026 the website gave the hours 10 am to 7 pm.
Three restaurants do not take cash: the boat by the quay, the tapas restaurant and the hotel restaurant at Storgatan 46. At most places a table is booked online, often through a booking service the restaurant links to. The hours in the catalogue cards do not always match the restaurant's own, and then the website is the one that counts.
