How to choose: steakhouse or grill, lunch or evening
- City and Gamla stan: three steakhouses with lunch or brunch and one grill restaurant for the evening.
- Vasastan and upper Drottninggatan: three evening restaurants centred on meat and one grill with lunch.
- Upper Drottninggatan: two grill restaurants around the corner from each other, both closed on Sundays.
In City there are two steakhouses that open in the morning: one by Klarabergsviadukten, next to the Central Station, and one on Kungsgatan. One opens at 10 and the other at 11 on weekdays, and both have a lunch menu (the restaurant websites, read on 7 October 2026).
On Regeringsgatan there is a grill restaurant where the menu gives the origin of every cut, from dry-aged Swedish picanha to entrecote from Uruguay, and where the evening starts at 16.00 or 17.00. In Gamla stan, on Svartmangatan, a steakhouse serves dinner every day, lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11.00 to 14.00 and brunch at weekends from 13.00 to 16.00.
By upper Drottninggatan there are two grill restaurants around the corner from each other. The larger one opened in 2003 in a former furniture shop and works with five methods: wood-fired oven, rotisserie, smoke, charcoal and table grill. The smaller one, on Tegnérgatan, calls itself a meat restaurant and opens as early as 12 on Saturdays. Both are closed on Sundays.
Further north in Vasastan there is a meat restaurant on Tulegatan that dry-ages meat from small Swedish producers and gives opening hours Tuesday to Sunday, from 17.00. By Odengatan there is a grill with French classics, meat and seafood, which is open every day and serves a daily lunch. The full range is in the Restaurants category of the directory. The city page has more about Stockholm, and to compare with other cuisines go on to Restaurants and cafés.
Booking, opening hours and payment
- Booking: all eight take table bookings on their website, and the phone number is in the card.
- Sunday: five are open, two are closed, and one steakhouse gives hours for Monday to Saturday only.
- Monday: the grill restaurant on Regeringsgatan is closed.
- Late: two restaurants in Vasastan stay open until 01.00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Cash-free: two of the restaurants do not accept cash.
A table can be booked online at all eight, and at most of them also with a call or an email (read on their websites on 7 October 2026). The opening hours differ much more. Four are evening kitchens that open at 16.00 or 17.00 on weekdays, while the two steakhouses in City and the grill by Odengatan are open from the morning or from lunch.
On Sundays five of the restaurants are open: the steakhouse on Kungsgatan from 12, the one in Gamla stan from 13.00 with brunch, and three restaurants that open at 16.00 or 17.00. The two grill restaurants by upper Drottninggatan are closed, and the steakhouse by Klarabergsviadukten gives hours for Monday to Saturday only.
Monday is the closed day at the grill restaurant on Regeringsgatan, and the meat restaurant on Tulegatan gives opening hours from Tuesday. If you want to stay late on a Friday or Saturday, the two restaurants furthest north, on Tulegatan and by Odengatan, are open until 01.00. Two of the restaurants, one in City and one in Gamla stan, say they are cash-free.
Origin of the meat, large parties and children
- Origin: one menu in City gives the country for every cut, and a restaurant in Vasastan works with small Swedish producers.
- Dry-aged: mentioned by two of the restaurants, on the menu or on the website.
- Large parties: from ten people a group menu or booking by email applies at three places.
- Children: a children's menu at one steakhouse, and dishes on large platters to share at one grill restaurant.
- Vegetarian: available at three of the restaurants at least, according to the websites.
The restaurants say very different amounts about their meat. On Regeringsgatan the country of origin stands next to every cut: Sweden, Uruguay or Australia. The restaurant on Tulegatan writes that it dry-ages meat from small Swedish producers, and the steakhouse in Gamla stan that its beef comes from farms where animal husbandry and quality go hand in hand.
If you are many, there is most room by upper Drottninggatan: the grill restaurant there has seven dining rooms, takes parties of 10 to 200 guests and has a private room for up to 50 people. Its neighbour on Tegnérgatan wants an email for parties of more than ten, the grill by Odengatan has a separate menu for groups of more than ten, and the steakhouse by Klarabergsviadukten has four set group menus. The grill restaurant on Regeringsgatan also has a private room.
With children in the party there are two clear answers. The steakhouse in Gamla stan has a children's menu and weekend brunch, and the grill restaurant by upper Drottninggatan writes that there are dishes children like and that the food is served family style, on large platters. Vegetarian dishes have a section of their own on the menu on Regeringsgatan, and according to the websites there are vegetarian options in Gamla stan and by upper Drottninggatan as well.
Takeaway is offered by two steakhouses: the one by Klarabergsviadukten and the one in Gamla stan, which also uses delivery services.
