Record shops in Stockholm: 10 shops for second-hand vinyl, new records and collectors' items

Record shops in Stockholm are grouped here by location and stock: second-hand vinyl between Slussen and Mosebacke, new records and CDs on Drottninggatan and Skånegatan, and collectors' records, the fifties and sixties and jazz in Vasastan. The cards show the address, phone number and a short description of each shop, so that you can pick the right place before you set out to flip through the crates.

Three areas, three kinds of record shop

  • Slussen and Mosebacke: three shops within a couple of hundred metres, all with second-hand vinyl.
  • Drottninggatan, Skånegatan and Hornsgatan: new records, CDs and vinyl among retro objects.
  • Vasastan: four shops, two with a broad range and two with a narrow focus.

Up by Mosebacke, with Slussen as the nearest metro station, three shops lie close enough for a single walk. One of them has sold soul, jazz, funk, hip hop and other black music to DJs, producers and collectors since 2001 and puts out new arrivals every Friday. Another was started in 1995 by a DJ, shares its premises with a gallery and stocks second-hand twelve-inches, singles and LPs in soul, funk, disco, hip hop, techno, house, jazz, reggae and rock, as well as new records from Scandinavian labels. The third opened in March 1985 and has the broadest range of the three: vinyl from pop, rock and hard rock to blues, country, jazz and film music, a selection of CDs, imported films on DVD and books about film and music.

For a new release, go to Drottninggatan or Skånegatan. On Drottninggatan in the City district there is a shop in a chain that has sold records since 1974 and also has shops in Gothenburg and Linköping: it has vinyl, CDs, cassettes, films on Blu-ray and DVD, K-pop and merchandise. On Skånegatan on Södermalm you find new records on vinyl and CD, and the shop orders in missing titles if you send a request by e-mail. On Hornsgatan, by Hornstull, the vinyl stands among retro objects, jewellery, ceramics, glass and furniture from the twentieth century.

The four shops in Vasastan lie around S:t Eriksplan and Odenplan. On Sankt Eriksgatan there is a shop with just over thirty years in the trade which, besides vinyl in most genres, sells posters, toys, pop magazines and memorabilia; the shop itself writes that the range on the premises is many times larger than what the website shows. On Torsgatan you find records from the fifties, sixties and seventies, among them rock'n'roll and Motown, and on Rödabergsgatan there is a pure jazz shop with around 100,000 records, from hard bop and free jazz to swing and trad jazz. On Upplandsgatan, in premises that have been a record shop since 1985, there is second-hand stock and a little new in rock, pop, soul, funk and jazz on vinyl and CD.

In the directory the record shops are listed under Electronics & Tech Stores: type skiv in the search box there to bring them up. Facts about the city are on the Stockholm page, and more guides to shops are in the Shopping section.

Opening hours: many open only from Wednesday

  • Wednesday to Saturday: five of the ten shops are closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
  • Open on Sundays: one shop by Mosebacke and the shop on Drottninggatan, both from 12 to 4 pm.
  • Earliest in the day: 10 am on Högbergsgatan and on Drottninggatan.
  • Late in the day: the jazz shop opens at 3 pm and the shop on Torsgatan at 2 pm on weekdays.

Small record shops are often run by one or two people, and the opening hours show it. According to their websites, five of the ten shops are open only from Wednesday to Saturday (read on 7 October 2026): one by Mosebacke, the shop by Hornstull and three of the four in Vasastan. They open between 11 am and 3 pm and close at 6 or 7 pm on weekdays, and on Saturdays they close between 3 and 5 pm. The jazz shop also receives visitors by appointment.

On a Monday or Tuesday there are four shops to choose from. By Mosebacke one shop is open from 12 to 6 pm every weekday and 12 to 4 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and the shop on Högbergsgatan is open from 10 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. The shop on Skånegatan is open from 11 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, while the shop on Drottninggatan has the longest hours: 10 am to 6.30 pm on weekdays, 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and 12 to 4 pm on Sundays.

For the shop on Sankt Eriksgatan we found no opening hours on the website, so phone before you go. The chain shop on Drottninggatan writes that hours may differ on public holidays.

Selling records: what the shops buy

  • Eight of the ten shops write on their websites that they buy records.
  • Whole collections: bought both by Mosebacke and in Vasastan.
  • Home visits: two shops in Vasastan travel to the seller when the collection is large.
  • Vinyl only: one of the shops by Mosebacke does not buy CDs.

Eight of the ten shops buy records from private sellers according to their websites; the chain shop on Drottninggatan and the shop on Skånegatan do not mention buying. What they want differs. One shop by Mosebacke buys vinyl only, single rare records as well as large and small collections in jazz, soul, rock, hip hop, progg, disco, reggae and punk, and the jazz shop in Vasastan buys jazz, from a few records to entire collections.

If you have a bag of records, take it to the shop: on Sankt Eriksgatan the staff look at the records over the counter and are after LPs, EPs and singles in pop, rock, progg, hard rock, punk, reggae, synth, soul and modern jazz. For larger collections the same shop asks you to phone or e-mail first and can come to your home, and the jazz shop makes home visits too. The shop on Torsgatan buys both single records and whole collections, and the shop on Upplandsgatan takes LPs, singles and special editions on CD.
