Ten second-hand shops in Gothenburg, sorted by what they sell and where they are: vintage and selected fashion inside the moat, charity shops with clothes, books and household goods at Rosenlund, Järntorget and Stigbergstorget, and furniture, interior items and mixed finds to the west in Majorna and at Fiskhamnen. Three kinds of shop: vintage, charity and furniture

  • Inside the moat: clothes shops in Magasinsgatan, Korsgatan and Kungsgatan and in the Arkaden shopping centre.
  • The charity shops: Rosenlundsgatan, Järntorgsgatan and Amerikagatan by Stigbergstorget.
  • To the west: Ekedalsgatan and Slottsskogsgatan in Majorna and Fiskhamnsgatan down by the river.
  • The selection is ten of the catalogue's seventy second-hand shops in the city.

The four shops inside the moat sell clothes and accessories, each in its own way. The shop in Magasinsgatan has vintage and second hand for men, and the same company runs a shop for women in the same street. The shop in Korsgatan, founded in 1982, describes itself as a vintage clothing and military surplus store. In Kungsgatan the shop sells modern clothes, shoes and bags for women that private persons have handed in. In Arkaden there is a chain shop with sweatshirts, jeans and sportswear from the 1990s, according to the chain its largest shop in Sweden with over 15,000 items (the shops' websites, October 2026).

The charity shops have a wider range and several departments. The shop by Järntorget has four floors and, in its own words, is more like a department store, with clothes, interior items, furniture, books and toys. The shop in Rosenlundsgatan is 550 square metres and has clothes, selected furniture, household goods, books and a children's section. The shop by Stigbergstorget describes its book department as one of the largest and best stocked in town and also sells art, clothes, glass and china.

To the west the shops are fewer and differ more from each other. In Ekedalsgatan there is a shop with furniture, lighting, ceramics, glass and art, where country furniture and art deco stand next to industrial lamps and Nordic classics from the 1950s and 1960s. In Slottsskogsgatan there is a charity shop with a mixed range, and at Fiskhamnen a work-integration social enterprise runs a second-hand shop and a café. The other shops in the city are in the catalogue category Second-hand Stores, and more shop guides are under Shopping.

Opening hours: Sundays, late weekdays and short weeks

  • Open on Sundays: six of the ten shops, all inside the moat or by Järntorget and Stigbergstorget.
  • Until 19:00 on weekdays: in Arkaden, in Kungsgatan, by Järntorget and by Stigbergstorget.
  • Short weeks in the west: one shop is open Thursday to Saturday, another Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

The shops inside the moat are open every day of the week. The shops in Magasinsgatan and Korsgatan keep the same hours: Monday to Friday 11:00 to 18:00, Saturday 11:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 16:00. The shops in Kungsgatan and in Arkaden close at 19:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on Saturdays and are open 11:00 to 17:00 on Sundays (the shops' websites, October 2026).

The shop by Järntorget is open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 19:00, Saturday 10:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 16:00, and the shop by Stigbergstorget 10:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday. The shop in Rosenlundsgatan states its hours week by week: in week 41 they were 11:00 to 18:00 on weekdays, 11:00 to 16:00 on the Saturday and closed on the Sunday.

The furniture shop in Ekedalsgatan is open Thursday and Friday 12:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 11:00 to 15:00. The charity shop in Slottsskogsgatan is open Tuesday to Thursday 11:00 to 18:00, Friday 11:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 11:00 to 15:00. The shop at Fiskhamnen is open Monday and Wednesday 14:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 15:00. Saturday is the only day when all three are open. The hours on the cards may differ from the shops' own, and in that case the hours on the website apply.

Selling, giving away and having things collected

  • Consignment in Magasinsgatan: the items are on sale for three months and the amount is split equally.
  • Consignment in Kungsgatan: 40 per cent to the seller and 30 days on sale.
  • Collection at home: free through the chain by Järntorget, no collection from Rosenlundsgatan.

Two shops inside the moat sell your clothes for you. In the menswear shop in Magasinsgatan you hand in the garments, you agree on a price, and the garments are then on sale for three months. When an item is sold, the amount is split equally. The shop in Kungsgatan accepts modern clothes, shoes, bags and accessories for women in good condition, but not menswear, children's clothes, sportswear or vintage. The seller gets 40 per cent of the sale price, the items are on sale for 30 days, and unsold items must be collected within seven days after that, otherwise they are given away. You can book a time for handing in or come as a drop-in (the shops' websites, October 2026).

The charity shops accept gifts instead of paying for the goods. In Rosenlundsgatan you leave household goods, clothes, books, toys and home textiles in good condition at the entrance during opening hours. The shop does not collect, and with larger furniture you are referred to the other shops of the chain. The shop by Järntorget accepts clothes, small items, interior items, furniture, toys and electronics, and the chain collects free from your home in the Gothenburg area if you book online, by e-mail or phone.

The charity shop in Slottsskogsgatan accepts gifts during its opening hours. The enterprise at Fiskhamnen accepts everything except large sofas and beds, daily 10:00 to 15:00, and can collect larger gifts. The terms of purchase are set by each shop: the menswear shop in Magasinsgatan gives no guarantee on used garments but exchanges within seven days against a receipt.
