Sweet shops in Stockholm: 8 shops for pick-and-mix, polkagris, caramels, pralines and liquorice

Sweet shops in Stockholm are divided here into two groups by location: shops in the centre and on Östermalm with pick-and-mix, imported sweets, pralines and liquorice, and shops in Gamla stan and on Södermalm where polkagris rock and caramels are made on the premises and where liquorice has shops of its own. Each card shows the shop's address and a short description, and you find the phone number in the card.

Cards checked on 7 October 2026. Editor: Alex. Found a mistake? Leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

What the eight shops sell

  • Pick-and-mix: several hundred kinds in the small shop by Hötorget.
  • Imported sweets: classics from the USA, England, South America and Asia on Hamngatan.
  • Made by hand: pralines since 1926, caramels since 2011 and polkagris rock in Gamla stan.
  • Liquorice: three shops, on Nybrogatan, Västerlånggatan and Folkungagatan.

In the centre there are two shops for those who want plenty to choose from. By Hötorget is a shop that is small in area but has several hundred kinds of sweets, from fish, dummies and jelly raspberries to chewy rats and chocolate coins (Visit Stockholm, read on 7 October 2026). On Hamngatan, inside a shopping centre, you find sweets, snacks, soft drinks and food from the USA, England, South America and Asia; the same chain has more shops in the city, and they are not included here.

On Östermalm it is mostly about presents. In the market hall at Östermalmstorg there is a family business that has made chocolate since 1926 and sells its own pralines and marzipan and, in recent years, its own gelato and sorbet. On Nybrogatan a liquorice brand has its own shop with chocolate-coated liquorice and ready-made gift boxes.

In Gamla stan polkagris rock is boiled in an old-fashioned shop on Stora Nygatan. There is also the shop's own fudge in four flavours and a fifth that changes with the season, sweets from other brands and a pantry with jam, marmalade and crispbread. A couple of blocks away, on Västerlånggatan, a shop with nothing but liquorice opened in 2019, from sweet to salty, with sections for sweets, cooking and baking, desserts and drinks, beauty and gifts.

On Södermalm there is a caramel shop with its own kitchen on Nytorgsgatan. Caramels have been boiled there since autumn 2011, and the wrapping machine can be seen through the window from the street. On Folkungagatan there is a shop that specialises in salty liquorice from all over the world; the company started in 1996 and has worked with liquorice for about sixteen years.

Opening hours: late weekdays and Sundays

  • Open every day, 10 am to 8 pm: the polkagris shop in Gamla stan.
  • Open on Sundays: four of the eight shops.
  • Closed on Sundays: the chocolate shop in the market hall and two of the liquorice shops.
  • Until 8 pm on weekdays: Hamngatan, Stora Nygatan and Folkungagatan.

Four of the shops are open on Sundays according to their websites (read on 7 October 2026). The polkagris shop in Gamla stan keeps the same hours every day, 10 am to 8 pm. The liquorice shop on Västerlånggatan is open from 10 am to 6 pm on Sundays, until 7 pm on weekdays and until 8 pm on Saturdays. The imported sweets shop on Hamngatan is open on Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm and the caramel shop on Nytorgsgatan from 11 am to 4 pm.

Three shops stay closed on Sundays. The chocolate shop in the market hall is open from 9.30 am to 7 pm on weekdays and until 5 pm on Saturdays. The liquorice shop on Nybrogatan is open from 10 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 5.30 pm on Saturdays, and the one on Folkungagatan from 9 am to 8 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, hours the shop itself calls temporary.

For the pick-and-mix shop by Hötorget there are no hours to give here, since the shop has no website of its own; the phone number is in the card. The caramel shop also has a hatch for caramel sauce and soft ice cream, and it is closed for the season.

Polkagris course, tastings and presents

  • Make polkagris: a course of about an hour, at least twice a month.
  • Tastings: in the liquorice shop on Västerlånggatan and in the polkagris shop.
  • Presents: pralines in boxes and orders for companies.
  • Liquorice soft ice cream: in Gamla stan when in season.

The polkagris shop on Stora Nygatan runs a try-it course where participants make their own polkagris sticks and take them home. The course takes about an hour, is held for private individuals at least twice a month and is booked in the calendar on the shop's website; a group can also book a time of its own. Anyone who simply drops into the shop is offered warm, freshly made polkagris.

The liquorice shop on Västerlånggatan offers tastings, and the staff guide you through the range from sweet to salty. In season it also serves soft ice cream with liquorice.

For a present there are pralines in boxes of 24 or 25 pieces in the market hall, and the company takes orders from both private customers and companies. The liquorice shop on Nybrogatan has ready-made gift boxes, and the caramel shop on Nytorgsgatan sells everything from a single caramel to larger presents and brews coffee for those who stay a while.

In the catalogue the sweet shops are listed together with the pastry shops, in the category Pastry and custom cake shops. The city's page is Stockholm, and more shop guides are under Shopping.
