Lunch or evening: who opens when

  • Weekday lunch: from 11 or 11.30 am around Lilla torg, on Gustav Adolfs torg and by Davidshallstorg.
  • Evening places: four restaurants open only at 4 or 5 pm early in the week.
  • Friday and Saturday: open until midnight on Skomakaregatan and Lilla Nygatan.
  • Monday: closed on Tessins väg in Slottsstaden.

If you want an Italian lunch on a weekday, the choice is around the squares of the Old Town. The restaurants on Lilla torg, Lilla Nygatan and Gustav Adolfs torg open at 11.30 am and the one on Skomakaregatan as early as 11 am, and the restaurant by Davidshallstorg also opens at 11.30 am (the restaurants' websites, October 2026). Two of them, on Gustav Adolfs torg and by Davidshallstorg, have a separate lunch menu.

Several restaurants, on the other hand, are evening places. The Sicilian restaurant on Östra Tullgatan opens at 4 pm every day, the restaurant on Holmgatan at 5 pm Monday to Thursday and at noon Friday to Sunday, and the restaurant on Tessins väg at 4 pm Tuesday to Friday and at noon at the weekend.

At the top of the hotel at Malmö Live, on the 25th floor, dinner is served from 5 to 10 pm from Sunday to Thursday. Lunch is served there only on Friday and Saturday, from 11.30 am to 2 pm, and the bar on the same floor stays open longer than the kitchen.

More restaurants are in the directory category Restaurants, the city page gathers facts about the city, and other guides about food are under Restaurants and cafés.

Booking: the limits for parties differ

  • Online: almost all have booking on their website.
  • Without booking: on Friday and Saturday evenings on Skomakaregatan it is first come, first served.
  • Larger parties: the limit is 7, 8 or 16 guests depending on the restaurant.
  • Saluhallen: the pasta bar gives no booking rules on its website.

Almost all restaurants on this page take bookings on their website (October 2026). One exception is the restaurant on Skomakaregatan: Friday and Saturday evenings cannot be booked there, and tables are given in the order guests arrive. On Lilla Nygatan you can book both online and by phone, and guests who come without a booking are seated if there is a table.

For larger parties the restaurants set different limits. The large restaurant on Lilla torg, with over 200 seats, takes online bookings for up to 16 guests and refers larger parties to a separate form. On Östra Tullgatan parties of more than eight are asked to phone, and the restaurant on the 25th floor has a group menu for parties of more than seven.

The restaurant on Gustav Adolfs torg receives companies and larger parties with menus put together for the occasion. The pasta bar in Saluhallen gives a phone number and an e-mail address on its website but neither opening hours nor booking rules, so those who want to be sure should phone.

The kitchen: Neapolitan pizza, a pasta bar and Sicilian food

  • Pizza: Neapolitan on Lilla torg, baked in a wood-fired oven on Lilla Nygatan.
  • Pasta: made fresh every day by Davidshallstorg, and in Saluhallen a new pasta arrives every Tuesday.
  • Sicilian: a restaurant on Östra Tullgatan that has been there since 1988.
  • Gluten-free: gluten-free pizza is stated by the restaurant by Davidshallstorg.

The Italian restaurants in the city do not cook the same food. On Lilla torg there is a trattoria of 700 square metres that belongs to a chain with restaurants in about ten Swedish cities and serves Neapolitan pizza, fresh pasta and dishes to share. The restaurant on Lilla Nygatan has pasta, risotto and pizza from a wood-fired oven, and the one on Skomakaregatan describes its kitchen as modern Italian, with pizza, pasta, salads and cocktails.

By Davidshallstorg bread and focaccia are baked and the pasta is made fresh every day, and the restaurant imports its wines itself. The pasta bar in Saluhallen has a short menu that changes: a new pasta arrives every Tuesday. On Östra Tullgatan the kitchen is Sicilian, and the restaurant has by its own account been there since 1988.

On Holmgatan and on Tessins väg the menu follows the order of the Italian meal, with antipasti, pasta as primi, main courses as secondi and pizza alongside. Gluten-free pizza is mentioned by the restaurant by Davidshallstorg, while the other restaurants say nothing about gluten-free food on their websites.
