Which group suits you
The page is useful if you want tapas on a Sunday, when most tapas bars are closed, if you prefer to go out without booking, or if you are a large party that wants to share a whole table of small plates.
| If you need | Look for | The group that fits | Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tapas for lunch on a weekday | Opening before noon and a separate lunch menu | City and Vasastan | Until what time lunch is served |
| Tapas on a Sunday | The Sunday hours on the restaurant website | Södermalm, or Vasastan and Kungsholmen | When the kitchen closes: Sunday evenings are shorter |
| A table without a booking | The words drop in, or a market area without table bookings | Södermalm or City | Whether the whole party can be seated at once |
| Dinner for ten people or more | A group menu, a long table or a private room | All groups | From how many guests you should email or call |
| Small plates from more kitchens than the Spanish one | How the restaurant itself describes its menu | Kungsholmen or Vasastan | Whether the menu marks vegan and gluten-free dishes |
How to choose: district, kitchen and time of day
- City and Vasastan: one restaurant with lunch in a shopping arcade and three evening kitchens in Vasastan.
- Kungsholmen: two Spanish tapas bars from the 1990s and one kitchen with small plates from around the world.
- Södermalm: three places within a few minutes on foot from Mariatorget.
- The guide is a selection: the directory has about twenty cards with tapas in the name.
In City the tapas restaurant sits in a shopping arcade by Jakobsbergsgatan, and it is the only one in this guide that serves lunch: it opens at 11.30 on weekdays and at 12 on Saturdays, and lunch is served until 14.00 (the restaurant website, read on 7 October 2026). Next to the dining room there is a market area with pintxos where you can sit down without a booking.
In Vasastan the kitchens do not open until 17.00. Two of them, by Odengatan and on Roslagsgatan, are sister restaurants with a Spanish menu: one puts pintxos and grilled octopus first, the other meat from the grill alongside tapas. The third is on Torsgatan, describes its dishes as modern tapas from around the world and is open every day of the week.
Kungsholmen has two tapas bars that have been around for a long time: a small Spanish bar on Hantverkargatan that has existed since 1997, and a family-owned restaurant on Fleminggatan that has served Spanish tapas since 1996. On Pontonjärgatan the menu is small plates from around the world instead, Tuesday to Saturday from 16.00.
On Södermalm all three are close to Mariatorget: on Wollmar Yxkullsgatan, Hornsgatan and Sankt Paulsgatan. More restaurants, including those that did not fit here, are in the Restaurants category of the directory. There is more about the city on the Stockholm page, and guides to other cuisines are collected under Restaurants and cafés.
Booking, drop-in and Sundays
- Booking on the website: nine of the restaurants, usually through a booking system.
- Drop-in only: one place on Södermalm does not take table bookings.
- Sunday: six are closed, three give Sunday hours.
- Monday: two places are closed, and a third has a shorter week for the time being.
- Friday and Saturday: four restaurants stay open until 01.00.
Nine of the restaurants take table bookings on their website, usually through a booking system, and several also by phone or email (the websites, 7 October 2026). The exception is on Södermalm: tables there are drop-in, while a private room for eight to twelve people can be booked. One restaurant in Vasastan closes online booking at 16.00 on the day and allows two and a half hours per table.
Sunday is the usual closed day: six of the restaurants in this guide are closed then. Sunday opening is found by Mariatorget, where one restaurant opens at 12 and another at 14, and on Torsgatan in Vasastan from 17.00. The restaurant on Fleminggatan says it serves food seven days a week, but gives no times on its website.
On Mondays two kitchens are closed, one on Kungsholmen and one on Södermalm, and a restaurant by Odengatan is for the time being open only Wednesday to Saturday, 17.00 to 22.00. If you want a long Friday or Saturday evening, four of the restaurants stay open until 01.00. The kitchen closes before the restaurant: on Torsgatan half an hour before closing time, on Pontonjärgatan a little earlier at weekends, according to the restaurant.
Larger parties, tasting menus and special diets
- Larger parties: from six to eight people the restaurants want an email or a call instead of an online booking.
- Group menu: one kitchen recommends it from ten people, so that the dishes arrive together.
- Tasting menu: may be served only if the whole table orders it.
- Vegan and gluten-free: marked on the menu at one restaurant, ask at the others.
- Takeaway: ordered by phone from a tapas bar on Kungsholmen.
Tapas are shared, so the size of the party matters more than at restaurants where everyone orders a dish of their own. In Vasastan online booking at one restaurant goes up to eight people, with a card guarantee from five, and another wants an email for parties of more than six. On Hantverkargatan the rule is phone or email from seven people, and you can also book part of the room or all of it.
For really large parties the websites give three clear answers (7 October 2026): a long table for up to 26 people by Hornsgatan, where the whole restaurant can be hired for up to 150 guests, room for up to 170 guests on Fleminggatan, and a private room with group menus on Pontonjärgatan. The restaurant in City has a separate menu for large parties.
A tasting menu is convenient but not always flexible. A grill restaurant in Vasastan serves its menu in five servings, only when the whole party orders it, and says that it cannot be made vegan. If someone at the table eats vegan or gluten-free, it is easiest where the menu is marked: on Pontonjärgatan the dishes carry marks for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free.
Takeaway is not common at tapas bars. The bar on Hantverkargatan does put together tapas to take away when you order by phone, including a whole tapas table for a party, and the restaurant on Fleminggatan lists pick-up and catering on its website.
Questions and answers
Three of the restaurants in this guide give Sunday hours: two by Mariatorget, from 12 and from 14, and one on Torsgatan in Vasastan from 17.00. A fourth, on Fleminggatan, says it is open seven days a week, while six are closed on Sundays (the websites, 7 October 2026).
It is wise, especially on a Friday or Saturday: nine of the restaurants take bookings on their website. One place on Södermalm is drop-in only, and in City there is a market area where you sit down without a booking.
Yes, but the choice is small: in this guide only the restaurant in City serves lunch, on weekdays from 11.30 until 14.00. On Saturdays it and two restaurants on Södermalm open at 12, and most of the others are evening kitchens that open between 15.00 and 17.00.
At several places, but book by email or phone: the limit for online booking is six to eight people. By Hornsgatan there is a long table for up to 26 people, and Kungsholmen has both a private room and a venue for up to 170 guests.
Yes, most clearly at a restaurant on Pontonjärgatan, where the menu is marked for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free. The Spanish tapas bars have vegetable dishes such as patatas bravas on the menu, but ask about the ingredients when you order.
Four of the restaurants stay open until 01.00 on Fridays and Saturdays: one in City, one on Kungsholmen and two by Mariatorget. The kitchen closes before the restaurant, so order your food in good time.

How we make the guide
The restaurants on this page are chosen by the editors of SverigesForetagsGuide. Payment affects neither the selection nor the order. The order within the groups is free and says nothing about quality.
