Lunch of the day: times and what is included

  • Four places state their lunch hours: three serve on weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm and one until 4 pm.
  • At Lindholmen there is a place that is open for lunch only, weekdays from 11 am to 2.30 pm.
  • At Eriksberg the restaurant does not open until 4 pm on weekdays.
  • Salad is included in the lunch; bread, rice, water and coffee differ between the places.

For many people the lunch of the day is the way into Indian cooking, and four of the restaurants publish their lunch hours on their websites (read in October 2026). By Skanstorget, on Lindholmsallén and on Ånäsvägen lunch is served on weekdays from 11 am to 3 pm, and on Hvitfeldtsgatan inside the moat until 4 pm. The dishes are listed day by day: at three of the places two dishes a day, usually one with chicken and one with lamb, and on Hvitfeldtsgatan Monday's menu had five dishes, two of them vegetarian.

What is included differs. On Hvitfeldtsgatan the lunch comes with salad, rice and naan, by Skanstorget with mixed salad and water, on Lindholmsallén with salad, naan and water, and on Ånäsvägen with salad, naan, coffee and water. On Ånäsvägen there is also a vegetarian plate every day, with three vegetarian dishes and raita, and it can be made vegan.

Two places break the pattern. The restaurant on Theres Svenssons gata at Lindholmen is open only on weekdays from 11 am to 2.30 pm, so you go there for lunch and nothing else. The restaurant at Eriksberg does the opposite: it opens at 4 pm Monday to Friday and is open in the middle of the day only at the weekend, from noon. On Linnégatan you can, according to the restaurant, order from the à la carte menu during lunch as well.

Most of the Indian places are listed in the directory under Asian restaurants and sushi bars, a few under Restaurants. General facts about the city are on the Gothenburg page, and other food guides are collected under Restaurants and cafés.

Evenings and weekends: when the restaurants open and close

  • Weekdays: six of the eight are open from 11 am until 9 pm or 10 pm.
  • On Saturdays the restaurants open between 11.30 am and 1 pm.
  • On Sundays three places close at 9 pm and three at 10 pm.
  • Parties of more than six are seated at high tables at Eriksberg.

Six of the eight restaurants follow the same basic pattern on weekdays: they open at 11 am and close at 10 pm, on Kungsgatan between 9 pm and 10 pm according to the restaurant's own information.

At the weekend the day starts later. On Saturdays the restaurant on Kungsgatan opens at 11.30 am, the restaurants on Linnégatan and at Eriksberg at noon and the others at 1 pm. On Sundays the restaurant at Eriksberg opens at noon and the others at 1 pm; three of the places then close at 9 pm and three at 10 pm. The restaurant on Kungsgatan gives no Sunday hours on its website, and the lunch place at Lindholmen is closed all weekend.

Tables are booked online at several of the restaurants: on Linnégatan, on Lindholmsallén, on Ånäsvägen and at Eriksberg there is a booking button on the website. At Eriksberg the number of low seats is limited, and parties of more than six are automatically seated at high tables; anyone who wants low seating should get in touch in advance. On Linnégatan you can also book a table on the terrace, subject to availability.

The times on the directory cards do not always match the restaurants' own, so go by the times on the website.

Heat, gluten and vegan food: what the restaurants themselves answer

  • On Linnégatan the menu states whether a dish is mild, medium or hot, and the heat can be adjusted.
  • The main courses there are gluten-free, but the naan bread contains gluten.
  • The vegetarian lunch plate on Ånäsvägen can be made vegan.
  • Seven of the eight places mention takeaway on their websites.

The restaurant on Linnégatan answers the most common questions on its website (October 2026). Not all dishes are hot: the menu shows which are mild, medium and hot, and the kitchen can adjust the heat on request. Rice is always included when you order a curry. According to the restaurant all main courses are naturally gluten-free, but the bread contains gluten and there is no gluten-free naan; the bread is baked without egg.

Vegan food exists, but it does not always show in the name of the dish. On Linnégatan the menu has several vegan dishes, by Skanstorget one of the vegetarian dishes on the takeaway menu is marked vegan, and on Ånäsvägen the vegetarian lunch plate can be made vegan. Raita is a yoghurt sauce and paneer a fresh cheese, so a vegetarian dish with either of them is not vegan.

Children and dogs can come along to Linnégatan: there is a children's menu and high chairs, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. The restaurant says it is accessible, and the lunch place at Lindholmen states that its premises are adapted for wheelchairs.

Seven of the eight places mention takeaway on their websites; for the lunch place at Lindholmen we found no information. By Skanstorget the food is ordered online: the takeaway menu applies from 3 pm on weekdays and from 1 pm at weekends, and the lunch of the day can also be taken away. On Ånäsvägen you order and pay on your phone and collect at the restaurant, and on Linnégatan there is both takeaway and delivery.
